What a fab weekend I’ve just had. Two very different events but, as usual, lots of laughter.

First was a wonderful birthday party for a gentleman who was 70 years young. His family put on this surprise party for him in his daughter’s lovely garden and we were very lucky with the weather. He unfortunately has Alzheimer’s Disease and has little motor function but was able to respond to the little bunny rabbits that kept multiplying in his hand.  😛  His family were so delighted that he smiled all the while I was there and never took his eyes off me. They said that he has never looked so happy since he was diagnosed four years ago.

Dementia is a terrible affliction because while the person is still with you physically, the person they once were has gone. It has been described as a “walking death”. But what is very clear is that funny, magical entertainment seems to get through where, perhaps, other things don’t and there is no doubt in my mind that the sort of thing I do cheers up all types of people whatever their age, culture, social standing or physical or mental health.
